A Salty Day At Sea-Part 3

After the merriment and singing subsided
My shift carried on, like a weary traveler in the night
The stars twinkled brightly, in a clearing sky
As the salty sea air hit my face refreshingly

Time passed ever so slowly and
I reminisced back to the day I joined the ship
It was a beautiful June sunny day in Madrid and
The sun was hot and high in the sky

I was fourteen at the time and
Still wet behind the ears
Dreaming of adventure on the high seas
Of foreign women and sword fights

My dad thought it would give me grit
And put strength of character and will in my bones
My mom worried I would squander my money
Or wind up hungry in a foreign land
